Reading

At Culworth Primary Academy we believe in developing a passion and love for reading in all of our children from the minute they  begin their school journey with us.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”

We have reading areas spread throughout our school, which are warm, enticing and encourage our children to sit and simply enjoy a text, either alone, or with a group of friends. 

 We have a strong and active group of children who meet regularly to discuss how they can share their love for reading across the school. Some of the most recent projects led by this group include:

• Book swap day
• Book Doctors - a support team to help children pick a text they will enjoy
• Development of a reading shed, including which texts to purchase, how to display them and ensuring it is well maintained and accessible to all
• Partaking in assemblies to share their favourite texts 
• Supporting the development of our library and key reading areas around school
• Input into the purchasing of new texts 
• Book recommendations on our school newsletter
